From the first story through until June 1976 Don Lawrence provided the series art the volumes. In 1978, Hamlyn Publishing printed a hardback collection of early Trigan Empire stories titled simply The Trigan Empire, reprinted in the US by Chartwell Publishing. The new collections were announced at Diamond Comic Distributors’ Retailer Summit in Las Vegas earlier this afternoon. The Trigan Empire continued in Look and Learn until the final issue, 1049, published April 1982. The new Rebellion series, which launches with a 304-page first volume next March, will be the first time the series has been collected in a mass market edition previous collections have been expensive limited-edition hardcovers produced specifically for the collectors market. Lawrence, an artist recognized as one of the finest in British comics history, mentored current creators like Liam Sharp (DC’s The Green Lantern) and Chris Weston ( Judge Dredd), and both will contribute introductions to the new series remembering their time with the artist. A lost piece of comic book history will be given the treatment it has long deserved starting next year, with 2000 AD publishers Rebellion announcing a collected edition program for the classic British comic book serial The Trigan Empire.
